Finally! - Got to hit the road for the Big V's first overnight Journey

The weather had not been my friend in planning the inaugural overnight journey for the new Versys. When I looked up and noticed that I had two days in a row off, during the week I knew that the stars had aligned and that I would FINALLY get to take a short road trip. As many of you know, I set up a Motorcycle rally / tour consisting of the top 40 small town cafes in the state of Texas. I decided to take these two days and plan a route where I would visited a few places and ride some of the Texas roads that had escaped me in the past. I shot out an e-mail about the ride and I had one of my riding buddies join me. Thank Stephen (YEEHA) for joining me. Your company is always welcomed. Lets do it again real soon.

I started out Thursday morning having coffee with my wife before she headed out to school to mold the youth of tomorrow. I on the other hand was going riding! The wind was really blowing but I did not care. I had my coffee and then took off for my first stop of the day. The bike temp gauge read 47 when I headed out.

I arrived at the Whistle Stop Cafe in Decatur around 8:40am. Stephen was there awaiting my arrival. We had a quick cup of coffee and then headed out. We hit FM 4 and rolled through the countryside. I love the ranch lands of Texas. Seeing longhorns and beautiful farm land is so relaxing. We battled the winds all day long, but it warmed up and the ride was a good one. We visited 4 locations on the tour. The funny thing is we ate lunch in a location not on the list. We were in Stephenville and that is the home of the Hard eight BBQ we had to eat there and as always it was very tasty!

We arrived in Temple at the hotel around 4pm. we did a good 350 miles and it was an awesome day of riding. We ate dinner at the Texas Road House and then headed back to the room to relax and watch some March Madness. It was a great day of riding.

I had to wash my bike off. It was still a mess from last weeks rain, so I took the off time to clean up the big V. It looks good all cleaned up.

I woke up early on Friday morning. I was excited to hit the road. The weather forecast looked amazing and it was projected that the winds would be low. It looked like a great day of riding. Boy was I correct! The day was awesome. We made our way through more FM roads, and a few County roads just taking in the sights and smells of this beautiful place that we call home. Today was one of those days that stick with you. You know the day that pops into your head when life and work are bringing you down, that one glimpse of perfection, lets you know that life is good and that the moment is fleeting. Take it all in.

I got home around 4pm all safe and sound. I logged almost 700 miles for the two days. It was a nice outing on the Versys. The bike gets more amazing on every ride. I am looking forward to our first two up overnight journey. Till next time. Ride safe everyone! You can see all of the pictures here
